Dear Computer Lady,

Your newsletter is very informative, I've been receiving it for a while now.  I'm fairly new to computers.  I hope I can word this question in an understandable way.

How can I send the same email to several people while keeping their personal email addresses private? When sending them, I just insert the first names of the individuals, but when they receive the mail, their addresses are listed along with their first name.

Thanks, Gail

Dear Gail,

To send an e-mail to several recipients at once without revealing all the addresses, you need to use a function called Blind Carbon Copy, or BCC.

In Outlook Express, open a new e-mail. If you don't see a line for BCC right under the "To.." and "CC..." lines click on "View" and then "All Headers". The BCC field will be part of the new e-mail window.

In Outlook, open a new e-mail, click on "View" and then "Bcc Field" to display the BCC field.

In Netscape, click on "Compose" to open a new e-mail message. Then click on the "To:" button and select "BCC:"

Once you have the Blind Carbon Copy field in your new e-mail message, enter the addresses of the people you want to send the e-mail to in the BCC line and then send it. Each person will only see whatever address you put in the To: field (If any) in the message they receive.

Dear Computer Lady,

Your newsletters seem to always have something useful and I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy them.

Recently you explained how to use BCC to send messages to a group of recipients without giving away their individual e-mail addresses.

I just followed your advice and sent an e-mail to a number of recipients only to discover when I went to the "sent items", there was just a blank for me as well so I don't have a record of the people I sent it to.  Is there a way to get around this?

Kind regards, Ron - n - British Columbia

Hi Ron,

I had to do a little digging, and here is what I found.

In Outlook Express:

Go to the "Sent Items" folder and right click on the e-mail, and click "Properties".

In the "Properties" window click on the "Details" tab.

Here you will see a list of all the addresses in the BCC field. Close the window when you are finished.

In Outlook:

Go to the "Sent Items" folder and double click on the e-mail.

In the menu bar of the e-mail, click on "Actions" and then "Resend this Message".

In the new message that comes up you will see the original BCC field with the addresses you sent the e-mail to.

Just close the message when you are done.

In Netscape:

Just go to the Sent Items folder and the BCC field will be displayed.
