This is the Computer Lady Kitchen Upgrade!

Fifteen years ago, our family had to replace the roof on our house when we found out that it was rotten. We also ended up needing totally new plumbing, wiring and needed to replace most of the walls.

We were still paying a mortgage, and couldn’t afford to finish everything, in fact for quite a few years the outside of our house was covered in Typar paper since we couldn’t afford siding.

Over the years, we have slowly finished off one room after another as we could afford it, but one room was not in the budget, the kitchen.

We built some rough counters, glued a scrap of Formica on the top, put some boards on the walls for shelves, built some rough shelves below the “counter” and placed some very old furniture where we could. This is how our kitchen has been for the past 15 years.

This year, 2008 is going to be the year we finally finish the kitchen! I am very excited, and wanted to share the transformation with you.

Would you like to help with the new kitchen?

We will be starting work on the upgrade in May 2008 and over the next few months, I will be adding pictures of the progress we make. I am excited to see what then new kitchen will look like.

This is the most expensive undertaking of the whole rebuilding of our house so I am asking for your help. Many of you have been helped by my articles so, if you have been helped by the information on this website, or the Ask The Computer Lady Newsletter, I would ask that you consider helping us in return with a small donation toward our kitchen upgrade.

I thank you for your help, and I can’t wait to share the results with you!

The New kitchen pictures are here!

I am still in the process of unpacking, but here you can see how much nicer the real cabinets are than the old “workbench” that we were using.

We have real Corian countertops, a new microwave over the stove, and did I mention new countertops?

The next step is to get the floor finished. I am rather fond of the plywood that is worn smooth from years of use, but I’m looking forward to ceramic tile floors.
