Dear Computer Lady,

I learned that by pressing Control + Space (WordPerfect) or Control + Shift + Space (Word) you could keep two words together that are being separated at the end of a line.

For example, if you are typing a letter and Mr. is at the end of the line and Smith continues onto the next line, you want to keep Mr. Smith together by using the feature above.

But how do you keep hyphenated text together? I'm a paralegal and often have to figure out how to keep case numbers with dashes together. Using the key strokes above just creates a space between the dash and the number. Thank you.

Carrie

Dear Carrie,

To create a non-breaking hyphen in Word, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys while typing the hyphen. I tested this in Word, and it worked great.
